Drambuie World Ice Golf Championship
Drambuie has sponsored its share of unique sporting events, but in 2003, the company partnered with the World Ice Golf Championship to host the most challenging golf competition in the world. Replete with polar bears, glistening glaciers and minus 40-degree temperatures, 20 inches of ice separated golfers from the frigid depths of the Arctic Ocean.
The 36-hole competition was played over two days in Uummannaq, Greenland and hosted an international field of professional and pro-celebrity golfers – all with a handicap of 18 or better. Glaciers replaced bunkers, ice replaced greens and red balls added color to an otherwise bereft landscape.
