2009 Pursuit White Water Rafting #2

Most everyone thought when you got to the landing point you were all done, not so much. Jump out of the raft with your tired self and then lift a massive raft and carry it up a slippery slope to the finish line, then you’re finished. This way Events 22 didn’t have to carry the rafts to the trailers… you all did.

Close Your Eyes Boys We’re Going In

picture-21 The trick to the rafting challenge is close your eyes, scream (not in English) and hold on tight. This approach worked well for many teams.

2009 Pursuit White Water Rafting #1

It’s very simple, get in a raft paddle down the rapids and turn around and paddle like a mad man into the throat of a rapid for extra points.

2009 Pursuit Hill Climb #1

Here’s mud in your eye Stefan. The hill climb by far has to be one of the more difficult challenges of the 2009 Pursuit. Many teams struggled to complete the climb let alone the repel. Those who took time to look around saw a spectacular view of the Loch.

International Group Proves Victorious at Legendary Adventure Race

NEW YORK, May 11 /PRNewswire/ – DRAMBUIE(R) Liqueur today announced that a team from Germany has won the 2009 DRAMBUIE Pursuit, an annual outdoor-adventure race across the Scottish Highlands. Team “DRAMBUIE Warriors” triumphed against 12 other international teams all racing to retrace the voyage of Scotland’s rebel Bonnie Prince Charlie, for whom DRAMBUIE was originally created in 1745.

Each year, teams of four adults (over 25 years of age) are flown to Scotland from around the world to race across the Scottish Highlands from Inverness to the Isle of Skye, in celebration of Bonnie Prince Charlie’s legendary escape from the British Army after a failed attempt to regain the throne. Once safe passage was secured, the Prince left to his loyal aides the only thing he had left to his name: the recipe for DRAMBUIE that to this day remains secret.

The annual competition consists of demanding trials of archery, mountain climbing, speed boat racing, kayaking and several other grueling activities against the backdrop of the Scottish Highlands, all to commemorate the passion and adventure of The Prince’s journey. Among this year’s contenders raced famed actor Seann William Scott, who led his own team to fourth place in the epic journey.

“The spirit of Bonnie Prince Charlie truly lives on at the DRAMBUIE Pursuit,” said Valerie Fender, Marketing Manager for DRAMBUIE. “And we congratulate the “DRAMBUIE Warriors” team on having the passion and dedication needed to win this year. The stakes are raised at every race, and we look forward to an even greater level of competition and spirit next year!”

Pursuit Competitors at Culloden Battlefield

Hello to everyone who attended the 2009 Drambuie Pursuit. It was a pleasure meeting all of you during the past few days in Scotland.
I haven’t quite made it back to the states, but wanted to throw up a couple quick photos for you to see. I thought I would start with just a couple from our trip to the battlefield and Eilean Donan.

Give me a few days and I will start putting up more images and video not only from the battlefield, but from the weekend. Sorry in advance if I happened to miss anyone, sure not intentional. I have lots of photos to share so hopefully I can get on the ball. Again, I look forward to your thoughts, comments and maybe even a hell yah!
Cheers… Rodrick

Drambuie Warriors Emerge Victorious in 2009 Drambuie Pursuit

winner3Drambuie Warriors Edge Out Strong Dutch and Brazilian Teams to Emerge Victorious in 2009 Drambuie Pursuit

Fellow Drambuie revelers compete against celebrities and a diverse field of international teams

INVERNESS, Scotland (May 10, 2009) – Four friends hailing from four different cities in Germany utilized a combination of physical fortitude and old-fashioned teamwork to finish first in a field of 13 international teams at the 2009 Drambuie Pursuit.

The fourth annual Drambuie Pursuit tested the stamina of the four-person teams as they competed in events as diverse as white-water rafting, mountain biking, buggy racing and archery. Martin Kern, Marcus Stolla and Stefan Olszok signed up for the event at the prompting of team captain Eike Sack and became known as the Drambuie Warriors.

Although the Pursuit wasn’t their first adventure together, the Drambuie Warriors were hooked after watching footage from last year’s event.

“We actually looked at videos online, and it looked pretty challenging,” Kern said. “I saw a lot of very exhausted people on the videos, but it looked exciting so we decided to sign up.”

Unlike some of the teams, the Warriors gained strength and momentum as they neared the finish line. Facing stiff competition from a Dutch team that worked extensively with personal trainers prior to the event and a Brazilian team that stayed in the top rankings, the German team rose to fourth after the hill climb. After moving up to second place during the white-water rafting challenge, the Warriors crossed the finish line in historic Inverness well ahead of their competition.

The Pursuit welcomed a total of 13 teams – six American, two Canadian, two German, one Dutch, one Russian and one Brazilian – to recreate the legendary flight of Bonnie Prince Charlie from the Battle of Culloden in 1745. Drambuie, a Scottish liqueur and the namesake of the Drambuie Pursuit, was created from a recipe the Prince used to sustain himself on his flight from the English. The prized elixir was handed down over generations and continues to serve as a refreshing reminder of Scottish lore.

The Drambuie Warriors credit their victory to a simple formula of dogged determination and strong teamwork.

“We didn’t expect it to be that demanding,” Olszok said. “We thought the Brazilians were up-front and the Dutch guys were really strong, but I guess our team had the strongest team effort … and that’s why we won.”

Among the teams they beat were a foursome led by film and television actor Seann William Scott and another anchored by Cabral “Cabbie” Richards, a Canadian sports television personality.

Most of the competitors and support staff are on their way to Scotland for the 2009 Drambuie Pursuit.  Check back here for updates throughout the weekend.

Below is a story in today’s Daytona Beach News-Journal about a local team from Central Florida that is competing in the Drambuie Pursuit.

The stairwell at a parking garage might not be as scenic as the Scottish Highlands.A rag-stuffed cardboard box might not make as glamorous an archery target as a bull’s-eye array outside an Inverness castle.

But three local athletes have been running up and down local staircases and slinging arrows at cardboard boxes in their backyards — in preparation for the 2009 DRAMBUIE Pursuit.

Jim and Naomi Nichols of DeLand, and Jeff Petit of New Smyrna Beach depart today on an all-expense paid trip to Scotland to compete in a grueling eight-stage competition based on the legend behind the liqueur.

Mountain bike racing, rock climbing, white-water rafting, off-road buggy driving and archery are among the challenges the three Volusia County residents face against five other teams along a 100-mile course across mountaintops and through valleys.

NEW YORK, Nov. 18 /PRNewswire/ — DRAMBUIE(R) liqueur today announced that Seann William Scott, well known for his irreverent roles in movies such as the “American Pie” film series, and most recently in “Role Models,” will compete in the 2009 DRAMBUIE Pursuit — a legendary, once-in-a-lifetime outdoor adventure race across the Scottish Highlands. In May 2009, DRAMBUIE will host the adrenaline-packed competition by sending teams of four to compete in a series of grueling outdoor trials including archery, white-water rafting, dune-buggy racing, and many other breathtaking challenges across Scotland. Seann will join other teams selected to compete in this epic race across the punishing terrain of the Scottish Highlands, following a 100-mile course that has its roots in a history of passion and rebellion. In 1745, Scotland’s rebel Bonnie Prince Charlie fled through the Highlands after a failed attempt at taking over the British throne, leaving to his loyal subjects his greatest gift: the secret recipe for DRAMBUIE. Now, nearly 300 years later, American teams will be flown to Scotland to retrace the Prince’s bold voyage from the Isle of Skye to Inverness. Taking place in May 2009, the DRAMBUIE Pursuit will offer teams the chance to race through some of the most challenging terrain in the world while taking in the awe-inspiring views of Scotland.

With several unforgettable and energetic comedic movie roles under his belt, Seann will bring his passion and vigor to the Scottish Highlands in this unique race of a lifetime. Seann’s unbridled enthusiasm will serve him and his team well when competing in the 2009 DRAMBUIE Pursuit.

“I’ve been training for something like the DRAMBUIE Pursuit my whole life,” said Seann William Scott. “I love the outdoors, extreme adventure activities and can’t wait to race across the Highlands. I’m looking for the best and the brightest to join my team of modern day rebels — we’ll be unstoppable!”

“Seann William Scott and his team will certainly be a force to reckon with at the 2009 DRAMBUIE Pursuit,” said Valerie Fender, Marketing Manager for DRAMBUIE. “We couldn’t be happier that Seann will compete in the race, as both onscreen and off, he exemplifies Bonnie Prince Charlie’s spirit of rebellion, passion and adventure.”
