NEW YORK, May 11 /PRNewswire/ – DRAMBUIE(R) Liqueur today announced that a team from Germany has won the 2009 DRAMBUIE Pursuit, an annual outdoor-adventure race across the Scottish Highlands. Each year, teams of four adults (over 25 years of age) are flown to Scotland from around the world to race across the Scottish Highlands from Inverness to the Isle of Skye, in celebration of Bonnie Prince Charlie’s legendary escape from the British Army after a failed attempt to regain the throne. Once safe passage was secured, the Prince left to his loyal aides the only thing he had left to his name: the recipe for DRAMBUIE that to this day remains secret.
The annual competition consists of demanding trials of archery, mountain climbing, speed boat racing, kayaking and several other grueling activities against the backdrop of the Scottish Highlands, all to commemorate the passion and adventure of The Prince’s journey. Among this year’s contenders raced famed actor Seann William Scott, who led his own team to fourth place in the epic journey.
“The spirit of Bonnie Prince Charlie truly lives on at the DRAMBUIE Pursuit,” said Valerie Fender, Marketing Manager for DRAMBUIE. “And we congratulate the “DRAMBUIE Warriors” team on having the passion and dedication needed to win this year. The stakes are raised at every race, and we look forward to an even greater level of competition and spirit next year!”

Hello to everyone who attended the 2009 Drambuie Pursuit. It was a pleasure meeting all of you during the past few days in Scotland.
I haven’t quite made it back to the states, but wanted to throw up a couple quick photos for you to see. I thought I would start with just a couple from our trip to the battlefield and Eilean Donan.
Give me a few days and I will start putting up more images and video not only from the battlefield, but from the weekend. Sorry in advance if I happened to miss anyone, sure not intentional. I have lots of photos to share so hopefully I can get on the ball. Again, I look forward to your thoughts, comments and maybe even a hell yah!
Cheers… Rodrick

Drambuie Warriors Edge Out Strong Dutch and Brazilian Teams to Emerge Victorious in 2009 Drambuie Pursuit
Fellow Drambuie revelers compete against celebrities and a diverse field of international teams
INVERNESS, Scotland (May 10, 2009) – Four friends hailing from four different cities in Germany utilized a combination of physical fortitude and old-fashioned teamwork to finish first in a field of 13 international teams at the 2009 Drambuie Pursuit.
The fourth annual Drambuie Pursuit tested the stamina of the four-person teams as they competed in events as diverse as white-water rafting, mountain biking, buggy racing and archery. Martin Kern, Marcus Stolla and Stefan Olszok signed up for the event at the prompting of team captain Eike Sack and became known as the Drambuie Warriors.
Although the Pursuit wasn’t their first adventure together, the Drambuie Warriors were hooked after watching footage from last year’s event.
“We actually looked at videos online, and it looked pretty challenging,” Kern said. “I saw a lot of very exhausted people on the videos, but it looked exciting so we decided to sign up.”
Unlike some of the teams, the Warriors gained strength and momentum as they neared the finish line. Facing stiff competition from a Dutch team that worked extensively with personal trainers prior to the event and a Brazilian team that stayed in the top rankings, the German team rose to fourth after the hill climb. After moving up to second place during the white-water rafting challenge, the Warriors crossed the finish line in historic Inverness well ahead of their competition.
The Pursuit welcomed a total of 13 teams – six American, two Canadian, two German, one Dutch, one Russian and one Brazilian – to recreate the legendary flight of Bonnie Prince Charlie from the Battle of Culloden in 1745. Drambuie, a Scottish liqueur and the namesake of the Drambuie Pursuit, was created from a recipe the Prince used to sustain himself on his flight from the English. The prized elixir was handed down over generations and continues to serve as a refreshing reminder of Scottish lore.
The Drambuie Warriors credit their victory to a simple formula of dogged determination and strong teamwork.
“We didn’t expect it to be that demanding,” Olszok said. “We thought the Brazilians were up-front and the Dutch guys were really strong, but I guess our team had the strongest team effort … and that’s why we won.”
Among the teams they beat were a foursome led by film and television actor Seann William Scott and another anchored by Cabral “Cabbie” Richards, a Canadian sports television personality.

It’s humans versus the Scottish Highlands in an outdoor adventure race that pays homage to Scotland’s original rebel, Bonnie Prince Charlie, and his flight through the Highlands after a failed attempt at taking over the British throne. Now, nearly 300 years later, American teams will be flown to Scotland to retrace the Prince’s legendary voyage from the Isle of Skye to Inverness.
DRAMBUIE will host teams of four during the Pursuit and is looking forward to welcoming Seann William Scott, well known for his irreverent roles in movies such as the American Pie film series, and most recently in Role Models, to the adventure.
Seann will test his skills against other teams selected to raft, bike, climb and shoot their way through the 100-mile race. Last year’s winning team, comprised of a native Scotsman and three smokejumpers from the American West, proved they had the heart and grit to conquer the Highlands. The 2009 Pursuit will welcome six American teams to the Scottish Highlands to shoot, climb, race and revel in Scottish lore. All bets are off as everyone from a husband and wife team to hard-nosed New Yorkers fight for bragging rights, and the chance to bring the winning title home to the United States for the second year in a row.
Last year’s winning team, Current TV, included a native Scotsman and three American smokejumpers – all self-proclaimed “tough guys.” The rough terrain and celebratory drams of Drambuie did little to squelch their enthusiasm as they crossed the finish line sweaty, fatigued and victorious.
This year’s teams span the country and include a celebrity team, Team Seann, led by Seann Wiliam Scott, best known for his roles in the “American Pie” film series. Other teams competing in the Pursuit are Team Versus, Team Sirius/XM, Team Men’s Journal, Team Details and the aptly-named ‘Buie Boys.

The unforgiving landscape of the Scottish Highlands does not coddle the faint of heart. Pursuit competitors tracing Bonnie Prince Charlie’s historic footsteps need equal shares of fortitude and luck to emerge victorious.
The competition kicks off with an archery competition at Eilean Donan Castle, a paragon of Scottish heritage and beauty overseeing the intersection of three great sea lochs. On day two, competitors advance to the shores of Kyleakin on the Isle of Skye for the Zap Cat Race. Kyleakin, known as the Gateway to Skye, is connected to the Scottish mainland and more specifically, Kyle of Lochalsh, by the Skye Bridge. The Scottish term, “Kyle,” refers to the narrow straits of water that border the villages.
Once competitors complete the Zap Cat Race, they return to Eilean Donan Castle to confront a substantial obstacle, the craggy peaks of Boc Beag. Pursuit-goers must mountain bike up the hill top before first ascending, and then descending the peak on foot. From Bog Beag, the Pursuit traces Bonnie Prince Charlie’s journey to the River Garry for the white water rafting competition. During his retreat following the Battle of Culloden, the Prince stayed in Invergarry Castle, and with the help of a fishing net, caught two salmon from the river to sustain him on his flight from the English.
After getting their feet wet in the river, contestants encounter 3 kilometers of narrow trails and forest roads that weave their way through the North Shore. The trails have been forged from the wilderness by thousands of footsteps over the years, but to complicate matters, Pursuit competitors navigate the forest roads on mountain bikes.
As the contestants near the finish line and Inverness, they face one final challenge before racing through the heart of the city. Just outside of Inverness, the lush green countryside gives way to sandy, hilly terrain that houses a quarry, the site of the Pursuit’s buggy race. The two-seater buggies bounce and jar the weary competitors as they negotiate the harsh landscape, but bruises are afterthoughts as the participants paddle frantically down the River Ness to the finish line in historic Inverness.
